Madrid. Madrid! Oh, where do I start?! Never ever would I have imagined to love Madrid so much. This city was a complete love at first sight for the three of us. I guess it might also be that we have a thing for Spain, cause Barcelona is my absolute favorite city to visit in Europe where I can go over and over and never get tired of. And now I can add Madrid to the list too😍🙏

To be honest with you, I've never really dreamed of visiting Madrid before. For some reason, this metropolis hadn't really crossed my mind until we wanted to go somewhere for a quick city break as we always love to do and I started looking at destinations in Europe. I browsed through airBaltic's website and took a look at their different destinations, keeping in mind the places where to get fast and where it would be a bit warmer, cause I was seriously tired of all the snow and cold winter.

And that's how I discovered Madrid - only one stop and 5 hours away and 15 degrees warmer - sold! We went there on Monday and came back on Thursday, which is an ideal length of a quick city break if you ask me, giving enough time to explore the location and discover lots of new cool places.

Take a look below to see snaps from Madrid and my list of best cafes and must-visit sightseeings😉

Sightseeings

Palacio de Cristal

The Crystal Palace and the whole park in general is a total must-visit when in Madrid! Haven't seen a more beautiful place in a long time and we visited it in total winter, I can only imagine how stunning everything will look in the summer😍👌

Palacio Real de Madrid

The residence of the Spanish royal family is also very-very beautiful and a great place to go and explore. Enjoy a lovely walk on a sunny day in front of the palace and in the back through the big garden.

Circulo de Bellas Artes

If you want a breath-taking view over the entire center of Madrid, go to the rooftop on Circulo de Bellas Artes. I advise going there just before the sunset for the most beautiful view and a great excuse to stay for longer and enjoy some cocktails on the rooftop bar afterwards😉

Templo de Debod

Another beautiful location to visit during sunset are the temples of Debod, which turn really magical in the dark sky.

El Rasto

I love a good vintage shopping! And El Rasto is exactly the place to go on a Sunday afternoon to find some one of a kind pieces from the flea market and enjoy different types of food.

Cafes & Restaurants

El Barril de las Cortes

We visited this restaurant very randomly on the evening of our arrival, because there were protests outside and so we wanted to eat somewhere close and it was just across the street from our hotel. But guys, it was soooo good! Omg that grilled octopus was to die for and Richard's meat got his approval as well. Definitely recommend😉

Chocolateria San Gines

There's no way of visiting Madrid without eating some churros! And Chocolateria San Gines is said to have the best churros in town - so it's a must-visit💯

Cafe Oriente

This is a truly beautiful location, very picture-perfect interior. We only had coffee and hot chocolate to rest our legs and get some warmth between our walk in the park next to it, but based on the menu and photos on Insta, the food looked super delish as well!

Dray Martina

Ok, so whan you want to visit a truly beautiful cafe with a bohemian / Bali vibe interior, then Dray Martina is your place to go. Very Instagrammable!

La Habanera

Another place with a super cool interior design. Cause the look of the place adds so much to the taste of the food, don't you agree?😜 Very chic and chill, great for a night out!

Taberna Arzabal

What's a trip to Spain without a visit to a tapas place, right?! And I'm a true lover of all sorts of tapas with wine, so naturally I google around in advance to find the most recommended tapas cafes. And Arzabal is just that - super delicious tapas!
