Whenever we travel somewhere for a short period of time, the hotel where we're staying at is especially important for us. I'm a firm believer that what you eat and how you sleep play a huge role in your overall mood and so, in the success of the whole trip. Which is why I always search for good restaurants and cafes beforehand and same applies to hotels. Because Lisbon is a metropol without a beach and the temperatures rise high during summer and even in the early fall, it was important for us that the hotel we're staying at has a pool. Especially when travelling with kids, cause Thor just loves a good pool to jump in and cool himself down after a hot day😜

So that was our main criteria when searching for a place where to stay when in Lisbon. Another important factor was, of course, location cause where you stay plays a huge role in short term city trips. For us, it had to be in the city center, within a walking reach to all the cafes, shops, cool areas and sightseeings. And the third factor when picking the hotel was the room itself. We wanted to stay in a family room, so that we would have two separate bedrooms and bathrooms. This way we can all be together but still have enough space and privacy and room in the bathroom😉 And that's how we encountered PortoBay Marques -  a hotel part of the PortoBay group with hotels around Portugal and Brazil.

They have two hotels in Lisbon and we decided to stay at PortoBay Marques, which ticked all our needs and offered us a super nice stay with beautiful interior, a good night sleep, delicious food and helpful staff. This one had a rooftop pool, while the other hotel they have in Lisbon has an indoor pool and we did want to get a little bit of a tan on as well, so this was why the final decision went towards Marques. And we were really pleased with our pick! The only downside I can think of was that you could order room service only until 11pm, so one evening when we arrived late and wanted to get a late night bite, we could only choose it from the snacks already inside the room, because room service was closed.

But despite that, we had a wonderful time in Lisbon and a pleasant stay at PortoBay hotel and that's exactly what you need for a successful city break!
