Las Wednesday started like any other. I had had my breakfast and had drank some coffee. After that, just when I opened my laptop and it was time to start working, I couldn't concentrate my eyes on the words on the screen. Instead, everything was a blur and my eyes started hurting. The pain then moved to kind of the back of my eyes (or so it felt) and then upwards to my head. It got worse and worse and I had to close my computer cause I couldn't really see anything anyway...
I didn't understand what was going on, I had never felt that kind of pain in my eyes before. I then laid down on the couch, closed my eyes and called my mom, cause for a second I was afraid that maybe I was having a high ocular pressure (the condition that totally suddenly left my grandma blind just a few weeks ago😢). After talking to my mom and calling my doctor, I took a few painkillers (just fyi, I never take pain killers unless it is absolutely necessary) and decided to sleep for a bit to give my eyes some rest and calm myself down.
When I woke up, the pain in my eyes had luckily gone away and I could see normally again, but instead I was having the worst headache of my life! It was absolutely unbearable and I was wondering that how can anyone ever deal with that?! Since the medicine didn't seem to be helping one bit, I reached out to you via my Insta-stories and asked for your advice and suggestions on the best headache remedies that have worked for you. I got SO many responses (seriously, you're the best💘) and because they really helped me get rid of that horrible headache, I wanted to share these tips with you as well. So the next time anyone of you should have a headache, you know what to do😊

The 10 best at-home remedies to relieve your headache fast
1. Water
Many headaches are caused by dehydration. So make sure to drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated and relieve the pain.2. Scalp Massage
Research has shown that massaging your head and ears can relieve headache pain. It feels even better when someone else does it to you😉
3. Lymph Pressure
Press the webbed area between your thumb and pointer finger. Lightly massage the spot for about one minute before switching to the other hand.
4. Stretching
Headaches can be also caused by muscle tension. Stand up and stretch your body a bit! Even a simple neck stretch could help relieve some of the tension and so take your headache away.
5. Coffee
One of the reasons for headaches is the expanding of blood vessels. Try drinking a cup of coffee, cause the caffeine in it constricts these blood vessels and brings them back down to normal size.6. Ice
The artery that supplies blood to the lining of the brain sits behind the thin bone at the temple. When you’re having a migraine, the lining gets inflamed. To avoid that, apply ice to your temples to lower the temperature of the blood passing through that area and relieve some of the throbbing.7. Hot Shower
Take a hot shower and let the water fall on the back of your neck. The heat relaxes tense muscles, which could also alleviate the pain caused by a headache. Another tip is to put your feet in a hot water bath while putting ice on the back of your neck. The mix of cold and warm fastens your blood circulation and relieves the headache.8. Coca-Cola
Drinking a bottle of (regular) coke was the most suggested tip I got! I believe it helps relieve the pain due to the mix of caffeine and sugar in it.9. Eye Drops
As I told you about my aching eyes, often times a headache can be caused by dry or tired eyes. So in case of a headache, use eye drops and give your eyes some rest.10. Sleep
If nothing else helps, try sleeping. As with all the illnesses, sleeping always helps your body to heal and feel better.

Thank you for these tips girl! I've been dealing with bad headaches later... it's probably the lack of water and good food, ugh! Xx

DeleteAll good ones!!! I would add deep breathing that may help sometimes. And for me it is important to take a medicine soon enough (it may not work as effectively after the pain has gone too far). And find the right medicine (ibumetin vs paracetamol based).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips! What kind of painkiller is better with a headache - ibumetin or paracetamol? xx
DeleteI recommend taking B complex vitamins. They have reduced my headaches significantly.
ReplyDeleteThank you for a great tip! I'll definitely pay more attention to my vitamin B levels xx
